By Carolyn Roth and Ed Simmons, Jr.
Have you been wondering how much your Grandma Emma's cobwebbed, dusty old spinning wheel might be worth? It could be a gold mine.
Or how about the weighty muzzleloader with the bent bayonet Grandpa Theodore hefted during the Civil War?
Now you can find out at the Antiques Roadshow coming to Caroline.
It's not the PBS version but a local event sponsored by the Citizens for Caroline Historic Preservation.
On April 4 at the Community Services Building between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. you can receive appraisals from local experts on your antique items such as furniture, glassware, textiles, Civil War and military items, coins and currency.
Admission is free; appraisals cost $10 each or three for $25. The event will also feature sales of antique items by local dealers and collectors.
This fund-raising event is the first to be sponsored by Citizens for Caroline Preservation (CCHP) since the organization’s recent establishment.
Their first project is the preservation of the 1900 Caroline County Jail building on the courthouse grounds.
All funds from this event will be dedicated to that purpose.
In addition to appraisals and sales, there will be a raffle of the Carol Campbell painting "Jail Birds" and a silent auction of donated antique items.
For further information about the organization or the Antiques Roadshow, call 804-633-6222.
