Caroline County, known for its rural charm and beautiful countryside, is home to approximately 14 Bald Eagle "occupied territories" . (Occupied Territories are birds observed in association to a nest and evidence of recent nest maintenance.) Of these 14, 11 are what is referred to as "Active Nests", i.e., if the birds appear to be sitting on eggs or if eggs or chicks are seen in the nest.

Our County's current Bald Eagle Territories are located in: Port Royal, Rappahannock Academy, Supply, Bowling Green and in Caroline near the Ashland/Caroline line.

Please respect the laws and understand that it is illegal to bother or disturb Bald Eagles. Additionally, it is also illegal to have in one's possession any thing relating to them, i.e., feathers

Under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (54 Stat.250, as amended; 16 U.S.C.22) - This 1940 Act prohibits the taking of bald and golden eagles or their nests and eggs. Under ths Act, taking is defined as "to pursue, shoot, shoot at, poison, wound, kill, capture, trap, collect, molest or disturb."
