Mark O'Conner
Board of Supervisors Chairman Wayne Acors reads a resolution commending Deputy Mark O'Connor for his life-saving actions as Sheriff Tony Lippa and Volunteer Deputy Fire-EMS Chief Ricky Matiak look on. Disregarding his own safety, Deputy O'Connor rescued a woman from a burning home in the Ruther Glen area on February 28 after arriving first on the scene.

Marion Woodfork Simmons
Author Marion Woodfork Simmons was recognized for her contributions to preserving the history of Caroline County. Ms. Simmons' book "Memories of Union High: An Oasis in Caroline County, Virginia 1903-1969" chronicles the history of Union High School, Caroline's only high school for African-Americans during the era of segregation. The book is available for sale at
the Caroline County Crafter's Gift Shop in the Caroline County Visitor Center.
