Children get "up close and personal" with Public Safety Officials on August 5th & 6th, 2008.

Rotating to different stations set up at Bowling Green and Ladysmith Elementary Schools, a total of 160 children were given lessons, presentations and the opportunity to view emergency vehicles and equipment at the 16th annual Camp Safety.

Career and volunteer firefighters and medics were on hand to discuss topics such as fire safety (with a firefighter dressed in protective equipment), smoke alarms, bike safety and water safety. The Caroline Sheriff's Office participated as well.

Held in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation's Summer Camp program, presentations were made to two separate age groups: 5-8 and 9 - 14 year olds. Each participant received a water bottle filled with goodies such as erasers, stickers and temporary tattoos.

Fire and Rescue's Camp Safety is in it's 12th year and began in 1997. The program is designed to educate children while at the same time giving them an enjoyable experience and less intimidating approach to public safety.
