According to the latest Virginia Employment Commission data, Caroline has scored the second highest new business starts in the Fredericksburg Region at an annual rate of 7.6% (behind Stafford which leads an even wider region of eight counties at 11.4%). The businesses are in all categories including retail.
In the wider region, Caroline’s percentage growth ties that of Prince William County’s.
Caroline County is furthest from the growing Washington DC area and has one of the smallest populations considered in the survey. Stafford County has a population four times that of Caroline’s.
In the business categories recognized by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership—large office and industrial firms—Caroline is second to none in the region with four recruitments in 2005. Caroline’s VEDP recognized firms out number all the rest of the Fredericksburg region’s 2005 VEDP recognized recruitments combined.
Caroline County’s Economic Development marketing material has won a Southern Economic Development Award, and the County strategically seeks the best firms in a competitive market.
