County staff and consultants continue to work on a proposal that will allow the County to withdraw water from the Rappahannock River in the future. The Department of Environmental Quality must grant its approval before water can be withdrawn.

The Board of Supervisors at its August 22 meeting approved a design contract for the upgrade of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Consulting engineer Arcadis has finalized a report on the current wastewater needs for the County.

Officials with Verizon have indicated they will soon meet with developers in the major subdivisions of the County to see how services such as DSL can be obtained by residents. Verizon DSL

Aqua of Virginia Negotiations are still underway with Aqua of Virginia for Caroline County to receive wastewater from Lake Land ‘Or and assist with the County’s nutrient requirements.

Discussions continue with the developers of Ladysmith Village, County Staff and the Rappahannock Area YMCA to identify the timeline for breaking ground on a new YMCA in Ladysmith. YMCA
Skateboard Park Construction is underway for a new skateboard park to be located at the County Park across from Caroline Middle School.

Revisions to the County’s Property Maintenance Code were introduced to the Board of Supervisors at its October 10 meeting. Contact the Planning Office at (804) 633-4303 for a summary of the proposed changes.

Utility and site work are underway for Ladysmith Commons, a commercial and office development located along Route 1 north.

VSE Corporation has expanded its operation to Green Road to the former location of Alliance Tractor Trailer and will also expand its current facility near the Ladysmith Business Park.

Fred Bus Discussions will continue this month with representatives of FRED Bus Service and the Town of Bowling Green to locate a shelter near the parking lot in Town Hall.

Top Line Concrete has announced it will locate in the Ladysmith Industrial Park with the potential of 20 jobs.

Clark’s Lumber and Millwork has announced it will locate in the Ladysmith Industrial Park with the potential of 25 jobs.

Belmont, located along Route 207, is set to move into its next phase that includes apartment units.

PendletonDevelopers of Pendleton officially opened their 18-hole golf course on October 28, 2006. The facility is open to the public. Housing construction is underway.

The Dawn Wastewater Project held its community celebration August 4 and homes are now connected to the system. Almost 200 homes will be served in the first phase of this project.

FRED The Fredericksburg Transit System (FRED) has expanded its service in Caroline County to include Dawn and Port Royal. Call FRED at (540) 372-1222 for specific details about the routes.

The Virginia Sports Complex, which includes an indoor training facility and 14 regulation baseball fields, is open.

Ladysmith Village now has 135 occupied homes and now includes a new branch library that opened August 27.

A new Ladysmith Elementary School is now under construction in Ladysmith Village.

Dental ProgramA new dental program to serve children with little or no insurance continues to operate in the Community Services Center under the supervision of the Area Health Department.

Construction of the new Visitor’s Center, located along Route 207 at Carmel Church, will continue this month. The developer of Belmont contributed $1.1 million on January 31 to help construct the facility, with the remainder of the funds coming from TEA 21 appropriations.

Remuda Ranch, an Eating Disorder Clinic, has opened. The new treatment center employs approximately 120 people on site over three shifts.

The new Carmel Christian School on Jericho Road is complete.

Renovations to the existing courthouse continue to move along.
