The new Dawn Library is now $12,000 closer to opening.

Last Wednesday, the Friends of Ladysmith Library presented a $12,000 check to Ann Long, fundraising chairperson for the Dawn Library projected to open in October of 2009.

The gift follows a $10,000 check from the Friends of Caroline Library presented to the Dawn Library in June.

"We've done real well in our fundraising," said Preston McLean who heads the Friends of Ladysmith Library. "Our mission was to get the Ladysmith branch up and going, then help the other branches."

The Friends of Ladysmith Library raised money with hog roasts, chicken dinners and a bronze "Donor Tree" located inside Ladysmith Library.

Maxie Rozell, supervisor for the Reedy Church District where the new Dawn Library will be located was there at the Wednesday observance when Preston McLain presented the check to Ann Long.

"We are very grateful," said Rozell whose family members donated the acre set aside for the library, close to the Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department.

Kay Brooks, library director for Caroline County, said she is seeking grants for additional funds while Ann Long is also planning fundraising projects.

At the August 26 Board of Supervisors meeting, the Dawn Library's architect, Glenn Reynolds, will present the project estimated to cost between $800,000 to one million.
