  • Mike writes: Occasionaly I see Bald Eagles perched in trees along the Rappahannock River in Rappahannock Academy in Four Winds camp Grounds. Sometimes I even see them flying over the lake in the camp grounds. It's a great sight.

  • Stephen writes: I have seen 2 eagles on my property for the past 3 years at least 15-20 times. Mostly in the winter when the trees are bare is when you notice them. I have seen them along the railroad tracks around polecat creek. They have even been in my walnut tree in my back yard. I live off of Dry Bridge Road on Carneal Lane about 1 mile from Penola on the railroad tracks.

  • Eileen writes: We have regular sitings of bald eagles on our property along the Maracossic Creek. They are based in the swampy area along Bagby Road (where it dips into the creek area) and I've seen them actually in the road eating. There is also a resident eagle along Sparta Road just after the campground area/Francis Pitts home- we often see one as we take the curve heading east before Jenny Lane.

  • Leslie writes: I live in Lake Land 'Or on Sea Cliff Drive and was visiting my neighbor yesterday (June 8th). We were standing in her driveway, preparing for an impending thunderstorm, it was about 4 in the afternoon, when I looked up and saw what I thought was the all too common turkey buzzard. It landed in a large oak tree that stands beside her driveway and I noticed that it had a white head and realized that it was not in fact a turkey buzzard but a bald eagle. My neighbor's son saw it too and was very excited to see the "American bird" as he called it. By the time I got my neighbors attention it had taken off, but I was very thrilled to see such a beautiful bird. I come originally from the state of Maine and have only seen a couple of these birds in the wild before, but to see one here was very impressive. I hope this helps in some way in your study of these beautiful birds in our area!

  • Jewell writes: Our home in Port Royal is in the path of several Eagles traveling from their nest to the Rappahannock River to feed. They fly over every morning and evening. Sometimes they return carrying "dinner" and sometimes they go home empy handed. They are so beautiful and majestic. We are hoping that future development in our area does not interfear with their flight pattern.
