All of our programs have set deadlines to allow us ample time to plan. Please help us by registering by the deadline.
Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;
We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.
These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.|
POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS
|Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
|B.A.L.M. (Becoming a Leading Man) (Boys Mentoring Program)
Our young males are faced with challenges of all kinds on a daily basis, but through mentoring we hope they will make productive choices, build healthy relationships, give back to their community, etiquette, conflict management and become leading males. Participants will also be taken occasionally on community tours and outings.Cost:$35

|D.I.V.A.S. with Promise (Devoted Individuals Valuing Another & Self)
This is a mentoring program for young ladies in middle and high school. Our primary focus is to empower the young ladies with the skills needed for success in the year and beyond. Focuses are on Exploration of talents and abilities, Exposure to diverse opportunities in and outside our community, and Motivation to achieve excellence in daily living and long term endeavors.
For: Girls in grades 6 - 12th
Meetings Days & Time: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Learn the fundamental techniques and the history of isshinryu karate, self-defense, discipline, as well as, stretching exercises. Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate basic hand and kicking techniques.
Fee: $35.00 p/p - $45 after deadline

Attire: T-shirt and loose fitting clothing is suitable for the program (uniform can be purchased from instructor).
Description: Participants will be instructed the basic cheerleading skills and be introduced to the learning of various cheers, chants routines, and jumps. Participants will be taught how to perform with the use of pom-poms in preparation for cheering at selected parks and recreation youth sporting activities.

Crochet & Knitting Class
Description: Participant will have the opportunity to learn surprising things about hooks, yarn, read basic patterns and diagrams, make samples of stitch patterns and learn to write simple instructions for personal designs.

Ages: Middle – High School Students
This series of workshops will be offered as weekly classes with a sign up commitment for a month. Participants will write, edit, and create their own books or collection of stories. Each month will bring a different focus: Poetry, Genre Fiction, Short Plays, etc. At the end of the workshop, the participants will gain the concept of but not limited to: Creating something from scratch; Skills in communicating ideas; Writing ideas in a structured manner.
Class Description: Design your very own video game! You will create a Mario-type platform game by learning to program your characters through a two-dimensional obstacle course. The characters attempt to avoid enemies and reach an end goal on multiple levels. Your game will be copied onto a CD at the last class for you to take home and enjoy!

Description:The 6-8 hour Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. This course is usually 6-8 hours in length but students are required to complete the self-study prior to class. Although students do NOT have to prove completion of self-study, the final exam will include material covered in the self-study portion. More information on the 6-8 hour course can be found here.

There is usually no charge for these classes, which are required for 12- to 15-year-old license buyers, as well as for anyone purchasing a hunting license for the first time.

Oh my! Participants will learn how to make and design finger puppets of their favorite animals with the use of felt fabric. They will also put together their own skit to display their puppets. Materials will be provided.

7 - 9 Year Olds at 6:00 p.m.:Previous experience in Ballet: some experience in Tap. Tap & Ballet shoes required.
10-16 Year Olds at 7:00 p.m.: Advance Dancers; Hardworking class; Must have experience in Tap, Jazz, Ballet. Must know basic steps. Tap & Ballet shoes required.

Description: Can’t move as well but can still shoot that jumper; this is the tournament for you. This is a bracket Hot Shot tournament for all adults. Participants will be paired up by drawing and play a tournament style competition with a 1 in a half minute running clock.

Description: Participants will learn basic fundamentals of the game, skills, rules, team work while playing organized games. The season is approximately six weeks long.

Description: Try our Pre-season Basketball Camp. All camps are designed to teach rules and basic fundamentals through team and individual drills as well as scrimmages. All levels stress teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. The camp will focus on shooting, dribbling and basic defenses.

4 on 4 Girls' Volleyball League
Description: This recreational volleyball league is a combination of teams that are hand-selected through a “draft” system. Teams will play at least 5 matches and participate in a single elimination, end of season tournament. This is a perfect league to develop skills and relationships with other players.
Holiday's Hot Shot Basketball Competition
Description:: You are invited to participate in a the Hot Shot Tournament. Hot Shot is a basketball skills competition that involves shooting baskets from five "hot spots" marked on one half of a basketball court. This competition tests your speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability within a series of one-minute time periods. Special prizes to the winners.

Description: Seniors and mature adults, your latter years can be better than your former by participating in this exercise class for social interacting, and for preventing and/or alleviating unwanted pains in the joints. Come join this low impact chair exercise program that will improve your mental as well as physical health. There are also opportunities to receive door prizes.

Description: This early noonday 30 minute social walk will energize, improve health and stimulate you to become more productive the remainder of your day.

Fall Into Fitness with Fun and Games
Description: This event is to provide a fun and safe environment with an emphasis on the importance of getting the body moving through dance, jump rope, stepping, music, and much more! Participants will also be lectured on healthy eating. Healthy snacks and door prizes will be available to win. Join the FUN!

Description: Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.
