All of our programs have set deadlines to allow us ample time to plan. Please help us by registering by the deadline.

Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registration for each program is one month in advance of the listed month on a first come first serve basis. Call for additional programming information. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN REGISTRATION FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE FORMS TO US. COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order for us to be successful in making this a healthier and more delightful Community, we believe it is essential that we take a collaborative approach.

This approach consist of you assisting the department in promoting and encouraging others to take advantage of the services that are provided on this calendar.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

making a friendlier environment;

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;

displaying benevolence.

We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.




DISCOUNTS

These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. For cancellations, listen to VA 101.5 FM or WFLS 93.3 FM call 804-633-7277, check here on the website, or like us on Facebook.

SUMMER EXPLORATION DAY CAMP

S.A.F.E. Summer Adventures thru Fun and Enrichment

Theme: "Amusement in the Camp"

Description: Enjoy arts and crafts, fun sport competitions, organized games, thematic special events, and weekly field trips at this enrichment camp.

Dates::June 23 - August 8, 2014 (Monday through Friday except Holidays)

For Ages: 5 - 12 5 year olds must have completed kindergarten

Enrollment Deadline: June 6 or until full

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Before Care: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. for a one time additional fee of $50.00
Cost: $250 per child NO sibling discount *additional fees for field trips

Pre-Payment Plan Option: $50 per month (February, March, April, May, June)

Parents must provide transportation, lunch, and a water bottle for their child each day.

Karate (Isshinryu)

Karate Girl

Learn the fundamental techniques and the history of isshinryu karate, self-defense, discipline, as well as, stretching exercises. Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate basic hand and kicking techniques.

Ages: 5-Adult

Fee: $35.00 p/p - $45 after deadline (one week prior to starting date)

Hunter Safety

Description:The 6-8 hour Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship. This course is usually 6-8 hours in length but students are required to complete the self-study prior to class. Although students do NOT have to prove completion of self-study, the final exam will include material covered in the self-study portion. More information on the 6-8 hour course can be found here.

Description: Want to relieve your stress after school and work on your skills? Join up and have fun "shooting" hoops with other school aged participants weekly.

Description: This league is designed to enhance social development, teach and improve the various skills and knowledge pertaining to the game of soccer in a fun, recreational atmosphere. Games will be scheduled for Saturday mornings. Practice will be held once a week before games begin. Practice day and time will be determined by the coach. Uniforms will be issued out by the department all other equipment will have to be provided by parents.

Parent & Me T-Tot Ball


Description: Introductory t-ball clinic for toddlers that requires parental support in the development and teaching of the game. This program is a great opportunity for toddlers to gain the understanding and fundamentals of t-ball. Participants will be taught the basics of hitting, throwing, catching, and fielding through fun filled drills. You and your child will participate in fun, age appropriate motor and socialization skills

Ages: 2 1/2 - 4(boys & girls)

Description: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a place where plants - and people - grow. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is also extending beyond traditional boundaries to have apositive impact and to enrich daily lives. The Garden is a place to learn about plants and to marvel at nature. Description:  Come and relieve yourself from the hustle and bustle of life and take on the mind set that your health is precedent over all things. This is an opportunity for you to finally get back your peace by exercising and feeling good about yourself.  Bring your sports drink and join us.

Begins: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays
Time: 9:00-12:00; 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Location:  Caroline  County Community Services  Center
Fee: FREE
Ages: 16 & up  * Must come into the Parks & Rec. office to complete waiver
before using.


FunRobics

Description: Seniors and mature adults, your latter years can be better than your former by participating in this exercise class for social interacting, and for preventing and/or alleviating unwanted pains in the joints. Come join this low impact chair exercise program that will improve your mental as well as physical health. There are also opportunities to receive door prizes.

Date: Ongoing on Thursdays
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 am
Cost: $1.00 per class
Location:Town of Port Royal Fire Hall


Morning Fitness, Fun and Bingo for Seniors 55 & Older

Description: This program is designed to offer multiple activities and fun for the development of the body, mind and the soul of seniors who are looking for something to do at least once a week. Bring your friend and win prizes while playing bingo, chair exercise, etc.

Date:June 5, 2014 (Thursdays)

Time: 10:00 a.m. - Noon

Cost: $12.00 monthly

Location:Community Services Center R.A.A.A. Facility


Healthy Steps - N- Morning Walking

Description: Join the fun by taking steps to build healthier relationships and generate energy for the purpose of living a productive and healthier lifestyle.

Ages: All Ages

Begins: Ongoing except holidays (daily)

Time: 12:50 - 1:20 p.m. (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays)

Location: Caroline Community Center Gymnasium or Former Caroline Diversified Learning Center (Ladysmith)

Cost: Free but must pre-register


"Get Up & Move Something!" Walking Program

Description: Instead of sitting an hour while you wait for your child to practice their sport or activity, utilize that time to Get Up and Move Something! Register wit the Parks and Rec Department to participate in this effort to encourage fitness, eliminate inactivity, and maintaining healthy bodies. More information will be provided at the orientation of your child's program.

Begins: Start up of child's activity

Locations:
Caroline Rec Park -
During Soccer, Football, or Cheerleading Practices, utilize the fields by walking the outside perimeter of where the kids practice, walk the walking trail or walk a mile or two around the high school track (4 times around=1 mile).

Former Diversified Learning Center (Ladysmith) -
During Karate and Tap & Ballet, utilize that time and walk the track (5 times around).

Cost: Free


Zumba

Zumba

Description: Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.

Ages: 14 and above

Fee: $5.00 per person per class

Zumba Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays at Caroline Community Center Gym

or Tuesdays and Thursdays at CDLC Cafeteria

Time:5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Caroline Community Center Gym
7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the CDLC Cafeteria

Location: Caroline Diversified Learning Center (CDLC), Ladysmith or Caroline Community Center, Milford


Materials Needed: Comfortable clothes, supportive shoes, plenty of water, a towel,
