All of our programs have set deadlines to allow us ample time to plan. Please help us by registering by the deadline.

Late registrations are accepted only when there are openings.
We reserve the right to cancel a program if numbers are not sufficient.
We reserve the right to establish minimum and maximum enrollments for programs.
Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registration for each program is one month in advance of the listed month on a first come first serve basis. Call for additional programming information. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN REGISTRATION FORMS TO YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THE SCHOOLS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE FORMS TO US. Please fill out and return your form by mail to Caroline County Parks & Recreation at PO Box 447, Bowling Green, VA 22427 or in person to 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford (In the Community Services Center Building). COMMUNITY OUTREACH

In order for us to be successful in making this a healthier and more delightful Community, we believe it is essential that we take a collaborative approach.

This approach consist of you assisting the department in promoting and encouraging others to take advantage of the services that are provided on this calendar.

Our department, especially in the youth activities relies heavy on volunteers. This is for the purpose of:

making a friendlier environment;

assisting in the growth and development of the children of this community;

displaying benevolence.

We welcome all volunteer help in assisting with our growing programs. If you have special skills in fitness, coaching, officiating, health & wellness, dance, etc. that you would like to share, please call the Department of Parks & Recreation at (804) 633-7277.




DISCOUNTS

These services were organized with careful consideration given towards the admission fees. It is our desire that each individual will have many opportunities to participate in programs organized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

POSTPONEMENTS & CANCELLATIONS

Our department shares facilities with the public schools and must cancel programs when facilities are not available. Locations, dates and times of programs may sometimes change to avoid conflicts with scheduled school events. Description: Enjoy arts and crafts, fun sport competitions, organized games, thematic special events, and weekly  field trips at this enrichment camp.

Dates: June 24 -  August 9, 2013    (Monday through Friday) Except Holidays.

Description: This is a week long program that stimulates Fun, Initiative, Energy, Readiness, Commitment, &

 Junior Chef

Description: Every one of our Junior Chefs will have a chance to a simple meal that they will enjoy and prepare for lunch. They will continue on after lunch to make a luscious dessert to take home for the family table. In addition participants will learn about food safety issues, attractive displays of their creations and proper table setting. This class is not appropriate for children with serious food allergies or sensitivities.

 First Steps towards Adulthood

Description: Waste no time lacing up your sneakers for an experience in learning how to step and move towards adulthood. Participant will learn the basics of money management, financial goal setting, saving and investment, forming healthy relationships, and how to have a successful job interview.

“Helping Hands” Building a Community

Description: “I just feel like a better person, because I’m doing something to make others happier. Participants will collaborate to volunteer time to enhance the beauty of County Parks. Afterwards an outdoor cookout will be held at one of the parks.

Amusement Park Fun

 Description: Celebrate Parks and Recreation by spending a day and having fun enjoying the many attractions at Kings Dominion.

 Day 5 July 12

Swinging and Overcoming

Description: Participants will develop mental toughness and patience that is essential for overcoming everyday challenges through their learning and participation in golf.

 






AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

B.A.L.M. (Becoming a Leading Man): grades 3-5: (Boys Mentoring Program)

Our young males are faced with challenges of all kinds on a daily basis, but through mentoring we hope they w ill make productive choices, building healthy relationships, give back to their community, and resolve conflict and become leading males. Participants will also be taken occasionally on field trips. Your child will meet every other weekend at the Community Services Center and once a month during the school year from 8:30 a.m. - noon beginning February 23.


Cost: No fee except for Field Trips

D.I.V.A.S. with Promise (Devoted Individuals Valuing Another & Self)

This is a mentoring program for young ladies in middle and high school. Our primary focus is to empower the young ladies with the skills needed for success in the year and beyond. Focuses are on Exploration of talents and abilities, Exposure to diverse opportunities in and outside our community, and Motivation to achieve excellence in daily living and long term endeavors.

For: Girls in grades 6 - 12th

Meetings Days & Time: 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Karate (Isshinryu)
Karate Girl
Learn the fundamental techniques and the history of isshinryu karate, self-defense, discipline, as well as, stretching exercises. Upon successful completion of this course, students will demonstrate basic hand and kicking techniques.

Ages: 5-Adult

Creative Writing Workshops

This series of workshops will be offered as weekly classes with a sign up commitment for a month.  Participants will write, edit, and create their own books or collection of stories.  Each month will bring a different focus: Poetry, Genre Fiction, Short Plays, etc.  At the end of the workshop, the participants will gain the concept of but not limited to: Creating something from scratch; Skills in communicating ideas; Writing ideas in a structured manner.



Electronic Game Design- Platform & Racing Games Summer Camp

While playing video games is fun... designing your own game is even more exciting, challenging, and rewarding! You get to make all the decisions including creating the scenes, characters, and sounds.

In the Electronic Game Design camp you will use Multimedia Fusion 2 ® to create you own video game. The Platform Game allows you to create a side-scrolling, Mario-type game and program characters to move through a two-dimensional obstacle course. The characters attempt to avoid or overcome enemies and reach an end goal on multiple levels. In the Racing Game, you will design a racetrack, race cars, and an environment in which the cars compete against each other. At the end of camp you will be given a CD with your original video game to take with you to play with friends!

Description: This league is designed to enhance social development, teach and improve the various skills and knowledge pertaining to the game of soccer in a fun recreational atmosphere. Games will be scheduled for Saturday mornings. Practice will be held once a week before games begin. Practice day and time will be determined by the coach. Uniforms will be issued out by the department all other equipment will have to be provided by parents.

Description: Can’t move as well but can still shoot that jumper; this is the tournament for you. This is a bracket Hot Shot tournament for all adults. Participants will be paired up by drawing and play a tournament style competition with a 1 in a half minute running clock.

Youth Basketball Instructional Camps

Description: Camps are designed to teach rules and basic fundamentals through team and individual drills as well as scrimmages. All levels stress teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. The camp will focus on shooting, dribbling and basic defenses, offenses, and comprehension of the game.

Holiday's Hot Shot Basketball (Bracket)

Description: You are invited to participate in the Hot Shot Tournament. Hot Shot is a basketball skills competition that involves shooting baskets from five "hot spots" marked on one half of a basketball court. This competition tests your speed, shooting, dribbling and rebounding ability within a series of one-minute time periods. Trophies will be awarded to 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th place winners.

Zumba
Zumba

Description: Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that incorporates Latin and International dance styles that will have you moving and grooving the entire hour. The choreography is simple and easy to follow; there are only 4 steps that will repeat. Participants typically burn between 400-800 calories in a one hour Zumba fitness class. The workout targets the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and most importantly, the heart.
