1st Annual Tea to benefit the American Cancer Society

Bowling Green, Va. - July 29, 2008 - The Caroline County community will host its 1st Annual "Tea for the Cure," at the Community Center on Richmond Turnpike in Bowling Green, Sunday, August 17 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.. The Tea is open to the public, with all net proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The theme for the first annual event is "Tea through the Ages." Tables are available for a maximum of 8 people for a cost of $200. Participants may attend in period-appropriate dress from their chosen time period – for example, Colonial Days, the Roaring Twenties, the 1950’s. "We wanted to offer a theme that is educational as well as fun, especially since we are an historical area," said Jewell Pitts, Co-Chairman of the event.

Food, table decorations, tea, teapots, teacups, and other enhancements are the responsibility of the table. The planning committee encourages everyone to be as creative as possible! The planning committee will provide the tables, chairs and hot water. Survivors from each table will model the costumes from their chosen era. Various categories will receive awards.

"This Tea is inspired by one originally launched by Janice Lancaster and Carol Sullivan in Fredericksburg, which has been a huge success for the past five years," said Eileen Beach, Co-Chairman. "It is a wonderful, relaxing event that folks can enjoy with family and friends, particularly if they are not interested in participating in intense fundraisers such as Relay for Life," she added. Cleo Coleman will serve as the honorary High Tea Matron of the event.

Sponsorships including Table Sponsorships are available. For more information regarding registration and sponsorship opportunities, contact Doris Long, Sponsorship Chairman at
